My inspiration has come from many areas, but landscapes have always been most moving to me. I was fortunate to have traveled a bit growing up, mostly out West, in a car heading to the mountains and beyond. The varied formations of the Rocky Mountains, Southwest, and West Coast offer much to wonder about. A few trips to other continents presented more landscapes to explore. My art reflects these varied sources, continually changing and developing yet complimenting older work. As new techniques are acquired, known ones integrate allowing more possibilities to develop. Basic geometric and organic shapes often become building blocks, and while their development may get complex the forms often stay simple. Tilework especially echoes this idea. Primarily a handbuilder for years, I then studied the art of wheelthrowing. The potter’s wheel opened up many new avenues of forms. As I became more comfortable with processes my work was able to form more directly from my ideas and hands. Combining hand and wheelwork, tile murals/mosaics and firing/glazing techniques comprise my main current interests. For me, beauty has always been the reason I pursue art. Born in Columbus, Ohio, I attended The University of Michigan majoring in Engineering and Fine Arts, receiving a B.F.A. in Ceramics in April of 2000. Fishing, music and camping occupy my freetime.
